What Does LPT Mean? Licensed Professional Teacher Explained

LPT stands for Licensed Professional Teacher. It is the professional title and designation granted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to individuals who have passed the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT, formerly LET) and completed all registration requirements. The LPT title authorizes you to practice the teaching profession in the Philippines.

How to Become an LPT

To earn the LPT designation, you must:

Graduate from a teacher education program (BEEd, BSEd, or equivalent with at least 18 units of Professional Education)
Pass the LEPT with a general average of at least 75% and no area below 50%
Attend the PRC oath-taking ceremony
Complete initial registration through the PRC's LERIS system to obtain your Certificate of Registration and Professional Identification Card (PIC)

LPT License Validity and Renewal

The LPT license is valid indefinitely once issued
However, the Professional Identification Card (PIC) must be renewed every three years
Renewal requires compliance with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements under RA 10912 (CPD Act of 2016)
Teachers must earn a specified number of CPD units during each renewal period through seminars, training, graduate studies, and other professional development activities
